SOME OF YOU WILL BECOME GREAT
Some of you know…Baby, I Like It RAW! Given the tense political climate between the U.S. and Russia, curators Marie Tomanova & Thomas Beachdel are looking at how young people who grew up right after the fall of the Iron Curtain see their environment in their new show at the Czech Center New York. More than just geographically isolated until early 90s, the Eastern Bloc is slowly making its way into the Western popular culture through the likes of Gosha Rubchinskiy and Demna Gvasalia. ‘Baby, I Like It Raw’ features works from over fifteen photographers and videographers, some of whom have never shown their work in the US, that capture the raw energy and desire of the youth culture under a totalitarian regime.
