Runway highlights from the Chromat SS17 presentation at MADE New York.
Chromat is a leading light in futuristic garment technology, and every season we look forward to being impressed by a new feat of human ability. Tonight, there was no wearable tech, but a celebration of human aptitude and strength was an important theme. With on-stage 3D printers at work through the duration of the show, the runway opened with a contortionist dance performance. This juxtaposition between feats of physical and mental dynamism was framed by a consciously diverse cast — swathes of beautiful women in all sizes, shapes and ethnicities included a model with a prosthetic leg, further solidify the concept of ability on a collection of swimsuits and power-dresses already inspired by female strength and athleticism. As the models walked down the runway there were outfits being 3D replicated in perfect 5th scale, possibly as a form of archive, creating physical and tactile space in history.
