An open-ended invitation to the temporary
The opening night of Love of Beginnings by Guy Yanai was snapped by photographer Ross Belfer as patrons were reintroduced to the artist’s signature ‘flat’ aesthetic. Yanai’s second solo show at Galerie Derouillon, a contemporary gallery based in Paris’ Upper Marais district featured five never-before-seen works with exclusive texts by renowned curator Julie Boukobza of Palais de Tokyo and Charlotte Jansen of Elephant Magazine. The showcase’s designated title echoes aspects of Yanai’s own life, having moved between continents and across countries numerous times throughout his life. Ultimately, the artist found his way back to his native Israel, a land of historic diaspora anyway. Without a closing, Yanai provides his audience with beginnings into circumstances, calling out to all who have ended up somewhere they didn’t intend or expect to.
