Highlights from the Luar SS17 presentation at MADE New York.
Luar SS17 was just as subversive and gender-twisted as you might expect from a designer who happens to be one of the founders of MADE Alumni, Hood By Air. Was it male models dressed in women’s wear or was it simply a feminine approach to men’s fashion? Either way, the presentation itself was a celebration of queerness, with nods to the past including Vogue-inspired choreography paired-back with futuristic elements such as an outfit containing CGI imagery ‘worn’ on a belt buckle which doubles as an iPhone 6 plus. The collection carried it’s own distinct voice and a surprisingly clean aesthetic with poplins, jerseys and suitings of the kind you might find in any conservative luxury mens’ collections, manipulated into unexpected combinations and politely feminine details on masculine cuts.
