OC is coming to the West Coast
Opening Ceremony are coming to Downtown LA this June to debut their Fall 2017 collection in what will be the brand’s first-ever Los Angeles fashion show. Appropriated from the concept of the modern day Olympic Games, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon created Opening Ceremony as a well-rounded representation of international fashion, art and editorial, bringing its followers a curated selection of content for the cool kids around the world. The second edition of MADE LA would seem incomplete without this cult favorite.
“MADE has always been a great forum for bringing creativity to life, and we’re excited to present our very first fashion show in Los Angeles on their footprint,” said Leon and Lim. “Opening Ceremony has been a part of LA’s community for a while now, and as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of our store on La Cienega, we can’t wait to take our show experience to the West Coast this June.”
Founded in September 2002 by corporate fashion alumni Lim and Leon, the company has now grown to encompass retail stores in New York (its OG store), Los Angeles, Nagoya and Tokyo and create ready-to-wear collections for both men and women. As a trajectory of its successful retail business, Opening Ceremony opened a showroom in 2003 as a platform to showcase a range of international and domestic designers. Opening Ceremony also operates satellite showrooms in Paris and Los Angeles four times a year to offer designers exposure to international markets. This is in keeping with MADE’s vision to bring creative talent to the forefront of the wider market.
Opening Ceremony are also recognized for their innovative production, e-commerce and creative collaborations. The brand has worked with industry names such as style icon Chloë Sevigny and filmmaker Spike Jonze and to show its Spring 2017 line created a ballet performance piece with choreographer Justin Peck. The pair were also appointed creative directors of Kenzo in 2011.
Just as its name suggests, Opening Ceremony’s show will mark the beginning of MADE LA 2017 this June. You can get tickets to Opening Ceremony’s show here.
