Roll with it at MADE NEW YORK.
Maison the Faux aims to capture an audience liberated enough to push the boundaries of an often narrow-minded world. It’s even difficult to know if a collection influences the theatrical world of their presentations or if the world influences the clothing itself, considering the two are so seamlessly intertwined to create the ultimate immersive experience.
The brand officially launched in January 2014 at Amsterdam Fashion Week and has since debuted three collections, wowing the world with their conceptual presentations. Rooted in a great sense of humor, self-mockery and a love for fashion, you won’t want to miss Maison the Faux’s SS17 spectacle. In the meantime, peep their newly curated dimension captured through video.
How did MAISON the FAUX come about?
MAISON the FAUX was founded based on a deep desire of creating a new world; based on new rules, new ideas. Using all of the weird rules of fashion to morph and bend them into something totally new.
You’re all about creating an experience. Where do you draw inspiration from for these concepts?
We want people to get sucked in to the distorted MAISON the FAUX world. Taking the MAISON the FAUX lifestyle to a new level and making it an all-embracing experience.
The inspiration from these concepts is mostly drawn from fashion itself. For us the way fashion behaves and how it evolves symbolises and tells a lot about who we are as humans. Ego’s, group-pressure, trends, consumerism, traditions, expression, individualism… the list goes on. We incorporate these basic instincts into our concepts.
Is the clothing inspired by a concept or is the concept inspired by the clothing?
That’s a totally synchronized process! It’s like a siamese twin-thing.
Are you wearing yourself?
MAISON the FAUX forever! So there’s always some faux to be found!
What kind of world do you want to convey through your videos?
A world where anything is possible. We would love to see a world where everyone can celebrate their identity and express in harmony.
What can these videos portray that photos can’t?
We can’t have flying, bouncing boobs in photos! We wanted to create a strange game vibe. We wanted to do something with the weird digital movements so we decided to go for moving images.
How do your videos represent your brand as a whole?
We approach fashion as being a part of a bigger picture; a vision. With every outing we do want to take people deeper into the MAISON the FAUX world. MAISON the FAUX stands for selfmockery.
You’re already pushing boundaries. How will you continue to evolve?
The world has never been perfect and we don’t think it ever will be. As long as the world and all of the people on it stay as strange and incomprehensible there’s always something new to reflect on or to think about.
What’s the fashion industry’s biggest flaw today?
Fashion can be one the most conservative industry’s. Being very focussed on a certain way things are done or should look. We can see the changes and we can’t wait for it to spread even more!
