Ille of The Pop Manifesto drops January’s tracks to warm your winter.
Our resident music curator Ilirjana Alushaj is back this month with her January picks for the MADE Shuffle. Listen for some good vibes that are sure to warm the winter blues.
Adore – Savages
I really like Savages and “Adore” is a beautifully stripped down and confronting love letter to life. That bassline is also giving all sorts of Nick Cave feels, which if you know me, is definitely a good thing.
Impatient ft. Ty Dolla $ign – Jeremih
I probably will always enjoy anything Jeremih puts out, so am not surprised that “Impatient” doesn’t disappoint. It’s wonderfully intoxicating, in the most sexy and restrained way possible.
Nobody Else – DJ Paypal
Great track! “Nobody Else” feels like a lighter twist to the genre, due mostly to DJ Paypal’s intertwining bright and sparkling synths, into a series of classic footwork drums. It really makes for something quite unique.
Love Yourself – Craig David
Craig David has been a long time favourite and this cover is an example of why everyone should listen to his back catalogue. I hope his album drops soon, as we have all have been waiting too long for the comeback.
Chances – Marquis Hawkes
This song is all disco loops and uptempo beats, and honestly sometimes that is all you want. Marquis Hawkes’ “Chances” leaves most of his trademark grit behind, which makes for a simply fun house track.
“Ilirjana Alushaj is an all-round talent originally from Australia and now in living L.A. via New York. They’re lucky to have her. Originally on the musical map with her band Apache Beat, these days you’re likely to find her working closely with the likes of Puff Daddy and record producer Hit-Boy, writing TV shows, DJing and running her own publication and label, The Pop Manifesto. Like Ilirjana herself, her mix is a good time with impeccable taste and a smart sense of humour. Press play and feel feelings.” — i-D Online
