Highlights from the Morgan Lane SS17 presentation at MADE New York.
Morgan Lane SS17 presentation was an adorable selection of gorgeous ladies wearing their intimates at the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists at Milk Studios. We caught up with Lane to find out more about her namesake brand.
What’s the soundtrack to your SS17 collection?
A live performance by my new favorite music duo, Sofi Tukker. My favorite song is Drinkee.
What do you wear to bed?
I go through different phases of Morgan Lane favorites. This week my top choice is the Cara PJ set in the Lanie Eve print. It was the first print and pajama I ever made. I feel so comfy and happy when I wear it because it reminds me of why I started all this—the perfect set for fashion week crazies.
Describe some your inspiration and references for SS17.
I became fascinated with mushrooms; how they all look so different. I never realized how interesting and beautiful they could be. I was drawn to the mystical worlds of Roxy Paine and Carsten Holler, which led me to paint the signature print of the collection, the mushroom print. The color palettes and wild flowers of Alex Katz inspired my drawings of bright oversized florals and butterflies that are embroidered onto the garments. For my expansion into swimwear, I designed custom rings that are reminiscent of sea glass with irregular rhinestones embedded in acrylic.
What mood(s) inspired your SS17 collection?
I wanted to introduce a realm of illusion. Each piece is playful with a twist.
What does your Google search history reveal?
1960s body art, mushrooms, wild flowers, and how to make zucchini spaghetti.
Describe the character that wears this collection.
She has a tender curiosity and mischievous imagination. She is a wanderess, like a butterfly, she is hard to catch.
Sum up your collection in a hashtag.
If your collection was a place, where would it be?
The land of mushrooms that Alice and the Mad Hatter visit in Tim Burton’s, Alice in Wonderland.
