What are you working on right now?
Dren: DJing, producing instrumentals and remixes, traveling, running and keeping up w/ my shows on Netflix.
First thing you do when you wake up?
Count my blessings *insert prayer hands*
Check my phone to see what’s up.
What are your favorite Instagram accounts?
@angelanddren [I had to.]
@nike – LOVE working with them. That’s also where I get my running & training inspo #nikefam
@v.riot – 24/7 fashion vibes
@iamnaomicampbell (because I love her)
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from your mentors?
Angel: Play the set you want to play. As a DJ, I feel like a room and its people should inspire you, but it shouldn’t necessarily dictate what you play. Experiment as much as possible with sounds, songs, genres, etc. and focus moreso on the vibe you want to create.
If you weren’t doing music, what career path would you be pursuing?
Dren: Hard to imagine, but I’d probably be living in Brazil teaching english and enjoying being a part of a samba school. Angel and I used to live there, and we speak portuguese. My second love after music is travel.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Dren: A lot of other producers inspire me… Diplo, Cashmere Cat, DJ Mustard, Grumby, Kanye and more. Live music experiences like Samba and Forró concerts in Brazil give me inspiration too. I like the dance culture.
Who is the person who has influenced you most in your career?
Dren: Probably Angel. We decided to learn to DJ together. We push each other to get better and to work harder and smarter.
What album or song has the most plays on your life soundtrack? What are you listening to now?
Angel: Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is everything to me. (It’s my fav Kanye album). That’s what I want my life to sound like. I’ve been really into the new Tribe Called Quest album (RIP Phife) and I love Childish Gambino’s new stuff.
